PHC Facilitates Access to Education in Rural Areas by Inaugurating a School in Yaosiko, a Village in Tshopo Province

In Tshopo Province, the village of Yaosiko, located in the Bolombo 1 groupement, now benefits from a school with modern infrastructure. This new establishment is a real relief for the community’s students, who until now attended classes in precarious conditions: bamboo classrooms partially coated with clay and covered with thatched roofs. Lessons were frequently disrupted at the slightest bad weather. In response to this situation, Plantations et Huileries du Congo (PHC) decided to intervene by funding the complete reconstruction of this public school, providing a dignified learning environment for students in this rural area.

The school rebuilt by PHC will improve access to education in Yaosiko village, Yahuma territory, Tshopo province.

Inaugurated on May 24, 2025, the now modern and functional school includes six classrooms equipped with 120 benches, an administrative building, and sanitary facilities. Thanks to a double-shift system (primary school in the morning, secondary in the afternoon), the school can accommodate up to 480 students.

“This school allows our children to learn in a setting that meets educational standards. It is an important step for our development,” said Jean-Robert Bonzalanzala Boyamba, Chief of the Bolombo 1 groupement, praising PHC’s commitment.

The Yaosiko school is part of a large-scale social investment program led by PHC across its three main operational sites: Yaligimba (Mongala), Lokutu (Tshopo), and Boteka (Équateur). To date, 39 schools have been rehabilitated, helping to sustainably improve the living conditions of thousands of rural families.
