Governance

Building Best Practice Corporate Governance

At PHC, we are dedicated to showcasing best practice corporate governance, ensuring transparency, accountability, and ethical decision-making at every level of our operations.

Responsability and managing risks

We are enhancing our operating procedures to align with best practices in risk management. As part of this effort, we have initiated a new environmental and social impact assessment for acquiring additional land, ensuring our future growth is respectful of both the environment and local communities.

PHC has also implemented an environmental and social management system in line with international standards, such as the International Finance Corporation (IFC) Performance Standards. PHC’s strategy is based on environmental and social impact assessments carried out by third-party companies within its operational sites and which define the measures to be taken by the company to avoid having negative impacts.

Associations and affiliations

We are a member of several industry associations and affiliations that align with the our vision. PHC is a member of the Federation of Enterprises of Congo (FEC) and the National Platform for Sustainable Palm Oil in DRC, which was created to support the African Palm Oil Initiative (APOI) set up by the Tropical Forest Alliance 2020. In 2022, the company also began a partnership with the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) as part of the DRC’S Agricultural Transformation Agenda (ATA-DRC), a presidential initiative to promote agriculture and reduce food imports in the country.

Diversity and inclusion

Over the past three years, PHC has made significant progress in diversity and inclusion, particularly by increasing female representation within its workforce. The proportion of women in our teams has tripled, rising from 4.5% to 14.1%. These results demonstrate our commitment to fostering a more inclusive and diverse work environment.

We recently established a Women Empowerment Unit to enhance working conditions and expand career opportunities for women within PHC. Beyond supporting our employees, this unit will collaborate with the PHC Foundation to create economic opportunities for women in the communities surrounding our operational sites.

Awards

In 2022, PHC established the “PHC Awards” to recognize and reward employees who delivered outstanding performance over the year. During the 2024 awards ceremony, employees were honored across various categories, from best fruit picker to best site manager, highlighting the essential role each position plays in the company’s success.
