Our Research Center: CREATY
Since its establishment in 1946, PHC’s CREATY has lead innovative research and experimentation to develop high yield and climate-resistant palm oil crops and seed varieties.
CREATY is one of the very first oil palm research centres in the world to participate in the largest international selection programs, making the centre a true global ambassador for Congolese agricultural innovation.
CREATY works to ensure the best properties of oil palms by:
- Improving oil palm yield by selecting the best crosses;
- Carrying out selection for resistance to diseases and poor climatic conditions;
- The production of selected tenera seeds for PHC plantations. The tenera variety, a cross between the dura variety and the pisifera variety, has a thicker pulp, a thinner shell, and a higher oil percentage than its two parents.
The tenera cross, which is now used worldwide, was created in the DRC, at the National Institute for Agronomic Studies of the Belgian Congo (INEAC) in Yangambi.
