PHC lauds the DRC’s Prime Minister’s Visit to Mongala and Reaffirms Its Commitment to the Province’s Socio-Economic Development

Plantations et Huieleries du Congo (PHC) commends the official visit byHer Excellency Madame Judith Suminwa, Prime Minister and Head of Government, to Mongala Province, notably in the territories of Lisala, Bongandanga, and Bumba as part of a government outreach mission.

As a long-standing stakeholder and a pillar of Mongala’s economy, Plantations et Huileries du Congo (PHC) reaffirms its commitment to sustainably supporting the Government’s efforts toward the province’s socio-economic development. PHC’s actions in Mongala fully align with national priorities, particularly in improving access to basic social services, creating sustainable employment, and promoting local development.

This visit enabled the Prime Minister to assess key infrastructure and government-led development projects, while engaging directly with local communities to better understand on-the-ground realities and the challenges they face.

Present in Mongala for several decades, PHC plays a structuring role in the local economy. With more than 11,000 employees under direct contract across its various sites, including Yaligimba. PHC is today the largest private employer in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, making a significant contribution to the social development of local communities.

Beyond employment, PHC continues to invest in sectors essential to community well-being. In the education sector, the company rehabilitates schools using durable materials to improve learning conditions and promote access to quality education. To date, 46 schools have been rehabilitated, enabling more than 30,000 children, primarily in rural areas, to benefit from a safe and appropriate learning environment.

Healthcare is also a key pillar of PHC’s commitment. Through its network of hospitals and medical facilities in Yaligimba, Boteka, and Lokutu, the company facilitates access to healthcare for its employees, their families, and surrounding communities. Pembe Hospital in Yaligimba, owned by PHC, stands as a regional reference, offering a comprehensive range of modern medical services, including internal medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, surgery, pediatrics, neonatology, physiotherapy, a well-equipped laboratory, and advanced medical imaging services. In addition, PHC has rehabilitated several state-run health centers, thereby contributing to improved access to primary healthcare for local populations.

With a view to strengthening economic exchanges and mobility in the region, PHC has also invested in the modernization of key infrastructure, including the Port of Yambenga, fully financed and rehabilitated by the company, as well as the reconstruction of several strategic bridges.

PHC also implements community development programs aimed at strengthening the economic empowerment of local communities. The Empow’Her program, dedicated to women’s empowerment, is a concrete example. It has provided training in market gardening, financial management, and income-generating activities, thereby contributing to women’s economic autonomy.

PHC’s CEO. Madam Monique Gieskes was present during the Prime Minister’s visit, further reaffirming the company’s  long-term commitment to contributing to the sustainable and inclusive development of Mongala Province.
