50 Smallholders Trained on Good Agricultural Practices in Yaligimba

From 27 to 29 October 2025, a technical training session for PHC’s partner smallholders was held at the Yaligimba site. The training was organized by the Council of Palm Oil Producing Countries (CPOPC) with the facilitation of Plantations et Huileries du Congo (PHC).

Smallholders from the Mongala and Tshopo provinces took part in the training focused on Good Agricultural Practices (GAP), essential for improving the quality, productivity, and sustainability of their plantations. Over the course of three days, participants received in-depth technical guidance on several key topics, including:

  • The importance of Good Agricultural Practices in oil palm cultivation;
  • Plantation preparation and maintenance;
  • Best fertilization practices;
  • Cultivation and harvesting techniques;
  • Application of fertilizers and plantation upkeep;
  • Farm management and monitoring.

The sessions were facilitated by trainers from Malaysia and Indonesia, two of the world’s leading palm oil producing countries. This exchange provided an opportunity for knowledge and experience sharing between international experts and Congolese farmers. The participatory approach encouraged constructive technical dialogue, helping to adapt cultivation methods to local realities while integrating international standards of performance and sustainability.

The training concluded with a certificate presentation ceremony, marking an important milestone in strengthening the technical capacities of local producers.

This initiative represents the beginning of concrete collaboration between the CPOPC and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, which became an official member of the organization in March 2025. It reflects a shared commitment to professionalizing and modernizing the Congolese palm oil sector in line with principles of sustainability and international competitiveness.

PHC Secretary General Mr. Gaston Fallu presented gifts to Mr. Antonius Yudi Triantoro, representative of the CPOPC Secretariat, and to the team of trainers, in recognition of their collaboration and commitment during the smallholders’ training in Yaligimba.
