A New Health Center in Lokutu Improves Health Care Access for Communities

On September 30th, PHC inaugurated a medical center in the Ndongo village of the Yahuma territory near Lokutu. Built by PHC, the facility will provide access to health care for 300 people.

Prior to the construction project, the entire population of Ndongo Village relied on a small health post. To reach the nearest hospital where they could receive quality care, most patients had to walk up to 12 km.

The new health center built with PHC funding addresses this need for a medical facility close to the community. The Ndongo Health Center is designed to provide outpatient, maternity, surgical, laboratory and pharmacy services. This medical facility will be made available to the Yahuma Health Zone, which is supervised by the Ministry of Health. While local authorities finalize the appointment of new managers for the health center, the nurse who previously oversaw the health post in Ndongo village will assume management of the new facility.

"It is a satisfaction to finally have a health center worthy of the name, which will allow women in the village to have access to maternity services and give birth in good conditions," said Ms. Julienne, a member of the community of Ndongo.

The head of the village group hands over the health center keys to the nurse who will temporarily manage the new facility. .

Also present at the inauguration ceremony was the sector chief of Bolinga who congratulated PHC for respecting the social clauses signed with the communities.

"We asked PHC to accompany us in the construction of infrastructure for the well-being of our communities. The Ndongo Health Center is a response of the company to our concerns, I invite the community to take care of it," he said.

Proud of the construction of a health center in his village, the chief of Ndongo recognizes the efforts undertaken by PHC to complete social projects in favor of the communities of Lokutu.

"I am very satisfied with the company's contribution to improving the living conditions of our communities. The Ndongo Health Center is one example of PHC's many achievements in Lokutu," said the Ndongo Village chief.

The construction of the Ndongo Health Center comes as part of PHC's goal to improve access to quality health care for the populations surrounding its sites. PHC provides health services in rural areas of the Tshopo, Mongala and Equateur provinces where the company operates, offering health care access to approximately 150 people.
