partnership with IITA

Since June 2022, PHC and IITA have been collaborating in the production of seeds of food crops within the framework of the Agenda de la Transformation Agricole de la République Démocratique du Congo (ATA-DRC).

About the partnership

The partnership between PHC and IITA aims to produce quality food seeds in order to increase the production capacity of Congolese farmers at the local level. The sectors selected are cassava, rice and maize. These activities take place in the provinces of Tshopo and Mongala, more specifically in the PHC concessions in Lokutu and Yaligimba respectively. This collaboration thus makes it possible to participate effectively in the economic development of the provinces as well as in the food security of the country.

The Memorandum of Understanding between PHC and IITA was signed as part of the Agenda for Agricultural Transformation of the Democratic Republic of Congo (ATA-DRC). ATA-RDC is an initiative of the Head of State, HE Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo, implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture including IITA and the African Institute for Agricultural Leadership (AALI), in close collaboration with other partners in the agricultural sector, provide technical assistance.

SENASEM CERTIFICATION

The seeds produced under the PHC-IITA partnership are certified by the National Seed Service (SENASEM) of the DRC. 

SENASEM is a specialized service of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Livestock responsible for the control and certification of seeds throughout the National Territory. SENASEM plays an essential role in the process of making high quality seeds available to Congolese farmers.
